The first day of the Foundation Future Leaders conference 2020 was entitled "Science and Government", and saw leaders within the civil service discussing how government uses science and evidence to form policy and take decisions.
The conference was designed for mid-career professionals – the future leaders – in the civil service and wider public sector; in universities and research organisations; and in industry, particularly high-tech industry with significant science, technology or engineering. It drew an audience of over 500 from across these sectors.
Taking place from 10.00-12.00 am each morning, the sessions addressed questions such as: How does Government use science? How does society encourage innovation in industry? What role does a university have in tomorrow’s world?
In addition to the keynote speakers, the panel sessions featured other senior leaders, plus mid-career professionals from the Foundation Future Leaders scheme.
